Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee offenders residing in community supervision center housing units, managing their participation in housekeeping, work, educational, recreational, religious, and treatment activities
  • Conduct headcounts and safety inspections, monitor compliance with facility regulations, identify hazards, and prepare detailed reports on behavioral violations and security concerns
  • Interview offenders to gather information regarding their personal circumstances, including family, employment, and education; verify backgrounds through contacts with family, employers, and others
  • Collect and validate legal case histories and police reports; maintain comprehensive records of investigative outcomes
  • Utilize state and national databases such as the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES), and other Department of Corrections resources to manage offender information, including warrant processing
  • Manage offender identification procedures including photographing and issuing ID cards, assure possession of parole orders, assist with employment searches, and oversee electronic monitoring schedules
  • Provide logistical support including maintaining records, managing equipment and vehicle logs, handling emergency communications, and assisting Probation and Parole Officers with court hearings and home visits
  • Supervise offender movement within and outside the facility, intervene in emergencies including providing CPR, monitor medication consumption, counsel on behavioral adjustments, and engage in rehabilitation efforts
  • Administer substance abuse assessments and DNA sample collection, oversee visitation protocols, and conduct searches of people and property to prevent contraband
  • Deliver after-hours assistance as needed, manage supply procurement and distribution, and maintain operational independence under general supervision

Additional Information and Requirements

  • Must successfully pass a Department of Corrections background check
  • Some roles may require completing safety training covering firearms, defensive tactics, CPR, and First Aid with annual requalification
  • Completion of training in Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System (MULES) through the State Highway Patrol may be required before regular appointment
  • Minimum qualifications include being at least 18 years old and possessing a valid driver’s license
  • Potential pay differentials: $2.00/hour for shifts starting between noon and 5 a.m. at 24/7 care facilities; $0.75 to $1.50/hour for working in medium or maximum security facilities; $1.00/hour for assignments in restrictive housing units
  • A guaranteed 1% pay increase is provided every two years of service up to 20 years
