Role overview
This is a permanent full-time administration role based at Mount Gambier Prison in South Australia. The position combines office-based support with practical operational work inside a correctional setting, supporting the prison’s daily services and administrative functions.
What the role offers
- Stable Monday to Friday business hours that support work-life balance.
- A diverse position that involves working both in the administration office and within the prison itself.
- The chance to contribute to the safety, efficiency, and support services of the prison, while helping make a positive difference for prisoners and the wider community.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee canteen operations, including supervising prisoner workers, coordinating with suppliers, and receiving stock deliveries, which may involve manual lifting.
- Handle prisoner money administration, special buy order processing, incoming and outgoing mail, and responses to electronic queries related to accounts, phone numbers, and orders.
- Carry out financial administration tasks such as processing prisoner transactions, completing banking-related errands, and preparing financial records for transfers or releases, including off-site tasks when needed.
- Provide reception coverage, manage general purchasing, and complete credit card reconciliation tasks.
- Support the team by taking a flexible, hands-on approach to the changing needs of the site.
What we are looking for
- A proactive administrator who is comfortable balancing office duties with practical site support.
- Someone willing to work directly with male prisoners in a low-risk facility, particularly in the canteen and special buys areas.
- A current Australian driver’s licence for commuting and for use of a company vehicle during errands.
- Physical capability to lift and carry items as part of the role.
- A team-oriented person who can help meet daily deadlines and operational demands.
Recruitment process
- Submit an online application with a CV covering your full work history.
- Shortlisted applicants will have a brief 15-minute phone discussion with the talent team.
- Successful candidates will be asked to attend an onsite interview.
- Final steps include background screening, such as a prison clearance, national police check, and reference checks.
