Job Overview
The Principal HSES Specialist is a senior role responsible for addressing complex Health, Safety, Environment, and Security (HSES) challenges. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy, requiring minimal supervision. The role may involve leading project teams and is recognized as a subject matter expert within the HSES field, demanding deep knowledge of HSES principles and broad understanding of the discipline within the Health Safety Environment Security function.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Develop, lead the implementation of, and ensure the Health, Safety, and Environment Management System (HSE-MS) aligns with corporate, legislative, and client mandates.
- Create and implement an integrated approach to the HSES Risk Management process.
- Actively participate and provide essential input to ensure mitigating controls are appropriate and sufficient.
- Formulate and deploy HSES plans, procedures, and instructions as dictated by contracts and in accordance with corporate and legislative standards.
- Oversee, monitor, and provide expert advice on all HSES-related matters.
- Offer technical and commercial support during the tendering phase of projects.
- Establish measurable and relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the area of responsibility, track compliance, and identify emerging trends.
- Plan and execute internal and external HSES audits and compliance assurance programs.
- Manage the subcontractor/vendor HSES pre-qualification and bid evaluation processes.
- Follow up on the closure of HSES actions and maintain related records.
- Develop and manage the HSES budget, ensuring adherence to financial plans.
- Engage in continuous professional development to stay at the forefront of HSES technological advancements and system improvements.
- Mentor and supervise HSES personnel, supporting their professional growth through competency assurance initiatives.
- Lead incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) processes.
- Maintain proactive engagement and communication with clients.
- Direct the creation of HSES information, training, education, and awareness materials for projects and business lines.
- Develop and maintain robust Emergency Procedures.
- Uphold high standards of safe working practices, quality, and productivity, ensuring compliance with the code of business conduct.
- Coordinate all Project HSES activities.
- Undertake business travel as required to support project and operational needs.
- Liaise with and advise management on issues and concerns related to projects and site operations requiring HSE support and guidance.
- Present and justify overall HSE performance to management as needed.
Qualifications
- Possess a degree (or a combination of education and experience equivalent) in an HSES-related field.
- Accumulate 7-8 years of HSE experience specifically within the Energy Industry.
- Hold a NEBOSH Diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrate familiarity with company, facility, and project-specific HSES terms, requirements, and deliverables.
- Maintain key competencies essential for the HSES function.
- Be trained and experienced as an ISO standards lead auditor (9001, 14001, or 45001).
- Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint) and other relevant online applications.
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
