Job Overview
The Principal HSES Specialist role involves independently addressing complex health, safety, environment, and security (HSES) challenges with minimal supervision. This position requires leading teams or projects within the HSES function and demands deep subject matter expertise and a broad understanding of the discipline.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the implementation of HSE Management Systems in alignment with corporate policies, legal regulations, and client requirements.
- Create an integrated methodology for HSES risk management and ensure mitigation controls are appropriate and effective.
- Design and execute HSES plans, procedures, and instructions compliant with contractual, corporate, and legislative demands.
- Manage and advise on all HSES-related activities, providing technical and commercial support during tender processes.
- Establish and track meaningful Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor compliance and identify trends.
- Plan and carry out internal and external HSES audits and compliance verification programs.
- Oversee subcontractor and vendor HSES pre-qualification and bid assessments.
- Ensure timely follow-up and closure of HSES actions and maintain documentation.
- Prepare and manage the HSES budget, ensuring financial compliance.
- Support continuous professional development to lead technological and systemic HSES improvements.
- Supervise and develop HSES personnel competency.
- Lead investigation of incidents and conduct root cause analyses.
- Maintain proactive communication with clients and provide guidance on HSES matters.
- Oversee the creation of HSES educational, training, and awareness materials for projects and business units.
- Develop and update Emergency Procedures to maintain preparedness.
- Promote a safe working environment with adherence to quality standards and the company's code of business conduct.
- Coordinate HSES activities across projects and conduct business travel as needed.
- Advise management regarding HSES issues affecting projects and operations and communicate overall HSES performance effectively.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent education and experience in a relevant HSES discipline.
- 7 to 8 years of HSE experience within the energy sector.
- NEBOSH Diploma or an equivalent qualification.
- Familiarity with company, facility, and project-specific HSES requirements and deliverables.
- Trained and experienced lead auditor for ISO standards such as 9001, 14001, or 45001.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint, alongside other pertinent online tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
