Job description

About the opportunity

Trade and Investment Queensland (TIQ) is the state’s global business agency, helping Queensland companies connect with international markets while also attracting investment into Queensland.

An opportunity is available for a Principal Business Development Manager to work from TIQ’s Hanoi office in Vietnam. This role is locally engaged in Vietnam and is not Queensland public sector employment.

Reporting to the Queensland Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner for Southeast Asia and working with a high level of autonomy, this position focuses on generating priority trade outcomes for Queensland exporters in Vietnam. The role centres on finding, advancing, and converting commercial opportunities across Queensland Government priority industry sectors.

As a senior individual contributor, you will draw on strong market knowledge, commercial insight, and stakeholder influence to deliver practical export results for Queensland businesses. There are no direct reports in this position.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead trade initiatives and action plans that support Queensland’s trade strategy in Vietnam and help exporters pursue opportunities in key sectors.
  • Provide direct support to Queensland exporters through market intelligence, commercial analysis, business leads, partner identification, introductions, and due diligence to assist market entry and expansion decisions.
  • Develop and progress trade opportunities by engaging Vietnamese buyers, distributors, large corporates, and sector stakeholders to connect market demand with Queensland capability.
  • Produce clear and timely reports and advice on market trends, risks, and emerging opportunities in Vietnam’s trade and investment environment for TIQ leadership and stakeholders.
  • Maintain productive networks with Vietnamese government bodies, industry organisations, corporates, and intermediaries to strengthen trade outcomes and Queensland’s commercial visibility.
  • Represent TIQ at trade events, exhibitions, and forums to promote Queensland’s priority sectors and capabilities and build market awareness.
  • Tailor and communicate Queensland’s sector strengths and value propositions to Vietnamese stakeholders to support engagement and deal progression.
  • Assist with planning and delivery of trade missions and business delegations, including briefings, program design, stakeholder coordination, and in-market support, as directed by the Commissioner.
  • Work closely with internal TIQ teams to ensure coordinated client service delivery and alignment with market priorities and government objectives.

Eligibility

Applicants must be legally authorised to live and work in Vietnam at the time of appointment and be able to provide evidence of that eligibility.

Full professional fluency in both Vietnamese and English, written and spoken, is required.
