Job description

About the Company

Vector is focused on creating a cleaner, more connected energy future through innovation, strong partnerships, and new technology. The organisation is investing in smarter approaches to energy resilience and access, with work spanning advanced grid management, renewable integration, automation, predictive analytics, and digital tools that improve reliability and customer experience.

The company also shares what it learns, helping others adopt more intelligent and sustainable energy systems. If you want to contribute to a future-focused energy business, this role offers the chance to be part of that journey.

About the Role

Vector is seeking a Principal Business Analyst who can work confidently across business and technical areas, turning complex regulatory and business needs into clear, implementation-ready system outcomes across the enterprise landscape.

This position supports important programmes, including Electricity Authority-related work and distributed generation, where the direction is already defined but needs to be refined, challenged, and delivered from end to end. The role requires someone who can take ownership, connect people and systems, and bring clarity to outcomes, integrations, and stakeholder expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take the lead on end-to-end analysis for large and complex transformation initiatives.
  • Convert business objectives into detailed requirements covering functional, non-functional, integration, and field-level rules.
  • Map how systems connect and operate together across the wider enterprise environment, including APIs and integrations.
  • Work closely with engineering teams so requirements are complete, testable, and ready for delivery.
  • Run workshops that shape requirements, support technical design, and help improve business processes.
  • Question assumptions and help teams move beyond working in isolation.
  • Advise stakeholders with structured insights that support confident decision-making.
  • Make sure solutions support customer outcomes, operational performance, and regulatory expectations.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in complex environments such as utilities, energy, or similar sectors, ideally on large digital transformation programmes.
  • Strong background in turning business needs into well-structured requirements, including work across data flows, integrations, and systems.
  • Comfort working with technical teams, architecture ideas, and system dependencies to support delivery from start to finish.
  • Experience preparing both functional and non-functional requirements, along with an understanding of how systems interact.
  • Ability to operate effectively in both Agile and traditional delivery settings.
  • A practical, inquisitive approach with the ability to connect ideas across systems and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify complex topics while building trusted relationships across business and technology groups.
  • Preference for candidates with BA certifications such as CBAP, CCBA, or PMI-PBA.
  • Experience with Design Thinking or Human-Centred Design is desirable.
  • Knowledge of BPMN or process mapping is also an advantage.

Impact of the Role

  • Help shape how regulatory and business requirements become real system behaviour.
  • Improve the consistency and maturity of Business Analysis across programmes.
  • Strengthen alignment between business goals, technology delivery, and customer outcomes.
  • Contribute to critical initiatives that influence how energy is priced, managed, and experienced.

Why Join Vector

  • Access a comprehensive benefits package designed to support wellbeing and development.
  • Grow your career through internal opportunities and development pathways.
  • Join a culture that values different perspectives and bold thinking.
  • Do meaningful work that supports Auckland and contributes to New Zealand’s energy future.
