About the Role

Bring your expertise as a paramedic into the classroom and help shape the next generation of emergency care professionals. The College of the North Atlantic is seeking a full-time Primary Care Paramedicine Instructor at its Bay St. George Campus in Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador. This position is pivotal to delivering practice-ready, student-focused education that aligns with national standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Deliver theoretical and practical instruction—including labs and simulations—to students in the Primary Care Paramedicine program.
  • Customize teaching methods while adhering to learning outcomes outlined in the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members for consistent and coordinated course delivery.
  • Develop and implement innovative instructional techniques and assessments using technology where appropriate.
  • Establish performance objectives and administer student assessments.
  • Regularly meet with students to review progress and offer academic guidance in a supportive environment.
  • Maintain appropriate classroom management and address learning challenges in accordance with college policies.
  • Participate in professional development and program review initiatives to uphold educational quality and standards in paramedicine.
  • May be required to instruct courses across the paramedicine spectrum (including Advanced Care Paramedicine or Emergency Medical Responder programs) based on qualifications.
  • Support various formats of course delivery including on-site and online instruction, as required by the program.

Screening and Education Criteria

  • Graduate of an Advanced Care Paramedicine (ACP) program with at least five years of recent, relevant ACP experience; OR
  • Graduate of an ACP program with less than five years' ACP experience, possessing additional Primary Care Paramedic experience; OR
  • Graduate of a Primary Care Paramedicine (PCP) program with a minimum of five years' recent, relevant PCP experience.
  • Assignments may be tailored to match the instructor’s clinical background and scope of practice.

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid and up-to-date practicing license with Newfoundland and Labrador Paramedicine Regulation at start date and throughout ongoing employment.
  • Background check (Certificate of Conduct) and verification of credentials/certifications required.
  • Foreign qualifications must be assessed for Canadian equivalency.

Additional Terms & Conditions

  • Instructors must participate in ongoing professional development, including post-secondary teaching certifications as stipulated by the province.
  • Must maintain all required memberships, licenses, and certifications.
  • Course assignments may occasionally fall outside usual areas of instruction based on qualifications.

  • Salary is determined by the Faculty Collective Agreement in line with qualifications and experience.
  • The role may involve variable remote, onsite, or hybrid work arrangements, though presence at the designated campus is generally expected.
