The Opportunity

The organization is looking for a Press Officer to oversee media relations, coordinate press communication, and contribute to public affairs activity. In this role, you will help influence public perception through proactive outreach to the media and well-crafted communication plans.

This position is well suited to someone with a strong interest in journalism, media relations, public communications, and reputation management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain working relationships with reporters, editors, and media outlets.
  • Handle incoming media questions and arrange interview opportunities.
  • Write responses for the media, official statements, and other public communication pieces.
  • Plan and execute press conferences, media briefings, and related media gatherings.
  • Track news coverage and flag new or developing issues.
  • Create press releases, speeches, talking notes, and media packs.
  • Prepare communication materials for executives and spokespersons.
  • Keep messaging aligned across different media channels.
  • Assist with public information initiatives and campaign content.
  • Develop content suitable for both print/broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Monitor public opinion and media framing around key issues.
  • Support crisis communication work and broader reputation management efforts.
  • Spot reputational risks early and suggest ways to reduce them.
  • Help coordinate communication responses during sensitive or fast-moving situations.
  • Assist with stakeholder communication during critical events.
  • Work with government bodies, industry groups, and community stakeholders.
  • Support executive visibility and leadership communications.
  • Coordinate communication activities across internal teams.
  • Maintain strong relationships with external communication partners.
  • Represent the organization at media and public engagement events when needed.
  • Track coverage, sentiment, and the effectiveness of communication efforts.
  • Prepare media monitoring summaries and communication analysis reports.
  • Maintain media contact lists and communication records.
  • Assess campaign outcomes and media engagement results.
  • Share communication insights and recommendations with management.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Political Science, English, or a similar discipline is required.
  • Between 2 and 8 years of experience in media relations, journalism, public affairs, corporate communications, or public relations is needed.
  • Excellent written, editing, and spoken communication skills are essential.
  • Solid knowledge of how newsrooms and media cycles operate is important.
  • Prior experience preparing press releases and media materials is expected.
  • Comfort working under pressure and meeting demanding deadlines is necessary.
  • Strong people skills and stakeholder coordination ability are required.
  • Experience managing sensitive communications and press queries is valuable.
  • Using media monitoring and communications tools is an added advantage.
