Job Purpose

This role focuses on maintaining and repairing industrial machinery and equipment, including working with hoists, lift trucks, and various hand and power tools. The objective is to diagnose problems, undertake necessary repairs or replacements of components, and minimize equipment downtime.

Main Responsibilities

  • Interpret and accurately read electrical schematics and diagrams.
  • Manage voltage modifications on generators per client specifications.
  • Rewire and upgrade control panels and voltage regulators as required.
  • Identify necessary parts and specialized tools to complete tasks effectively.
  • Diagnose alternator faults and adjust speed controls and settings appropriately.
  • Conduct load bank testing for generators to ensure proper function.
  • Collaborate closely with Workshop Supervisor and Service Manager to report on project timelines and estimates.
  • Maintain safety standards at worksites consistently.
  • Use electronic diagnostic software and tools to repair and program generator controllers.
  • Install, service, and enhance electrical systems including wiring, fuses, and lighting.
  • Inspect and test electrical components to identify issues and confirm proper operation.
  • Adhere strictly to electrical codes, standards, and blueprints for all work performed.
  • Document repairs and service details comprehensively and timely.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate supplies and parts availability.
  • Perform equipment calibration based on manufacturer or engineering specifications.
  • Execute preventive maintenance of electrical systems and components to forestall breakdowns.
  • Troubleshoot effectively and complete timely repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Contribute feedback to continuously improve work instruction manuals and procedures.

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Responsibilities

  • Comply fully with company Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and report any unsafe conditions, incidents, or near misses immediately to supervisors or QHSE team.
  • Properly use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety tools as mandated.
  • Participate actively in safety inductions, training sessions, meetings, drills, and root cause analyses.
  • Follow emergency response protocols, including evacuation and first aid if qualified.
  • Apply methods that minimize environmental impact, including responsible waste disposal and spill reporting.
  • Suggest improvements to QHSE practices and take initiative in continuous enhancements.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Possess a Technical Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Hold technical training certifications from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Valid driving license preferred, ideally GCC driving license.

Experience and Skills

  • Proficient knowledge of electrical parts in generator sets, including alternators and control panels.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing large diesel generators (both high and low speed) with voltage ratings up to 13.8KV, including control devices such as auto-start, load sharing, auto-parallel, auto-stop, and synchronization systems.
  • Familiarity with programming controllers such as Deep Sea and synchronization equipment.
  • Practical understanding of mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, and electronic principles.
  • Capability to perform welding, fabrication, and precise calibration tasks as required.
  • In-depth knowledge of diesel engines and associated systems including fuel, lubrication, cooling, and exhaust, particularly for power generation applications in the Oil & Gas sector.
  • Experience servicing alternators from various brands like Stamford, Marelli, Leroy-Somer, Mecc Alte, and Marelli, and working with control panels incorporating ATS, MCCB, MCB, PLCs, and busbars.
  • Strong technical English language skills along with proficiency in MS Office applications such as Outlook and Calendar.
  • Strict adherence to health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Analytical, systematic approach to problem-solving.
  • Customer service experience is advantageous.
