Job description

Position Overview

The School at Technological University Dublin is recruiting an experienced postdoctoral Cybersecurity Researcher to become an integral member of its research team. This role focuses on pioneering investigations at the convergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Future Networks, and Critical Infrastructure Security — particularly emphasizing the protection of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) environments under mentorship from a Principal Investigator (PI).

Key Duties

  • Design and conduct innovative research experiments related to AI-enhanced cybersecurity technologies.
  • Develop and assess novel cybersecurity solutions leveraging AI techniques.
  • Gather, process, and analyze research data diligently to inform findings.
  • Prepare and disseminate research results via high-impact publications and presentations.
  • Collaborate on the TRUSTBOOST initiative aimed at harmonizing EU cybersecurity certification and compliance frameworks aligned with legislative standards such as CSA, CRA, and NIS2.
  • Contribute to shaping a shared European platform for certification transparency and trust enhancement.
  • Assist in mentoring research staff and students while fostering partnerships with academia and industry to advance project goals.

Research Focus Areas

  • AI-driven intelligent threat detection and situational awareness, entailing adaptive and context-sensitive security measures.
  • Explainable and trustworthy AI (XAI) models supporting transparent, interpretable, and accountable cybersecurity decisions.
  • Agent-based AI and autonomous cyber defence mechanisms employing multi-agent systems for cyber threat management and orchestration.
  • Securing IIoT and critical infrastructure environments characterized by interconnected, distributed, and resource-limited systems.
  • Developing cyber resilience and adaptive security strategies that enhance anticipation, resistance, recovery, and responsiveness to evolving cyber threats.
  • Utilization of experimental platforms such as cyber ranges, digital twins, and simulators for thorough validation of security solutions.

Additional Information

This role is part of a research fellowship program encouraging near-autonomous work under PI supervision. The incumbent will be afforded training opportunities at TU Dublin or through external providers relevant to their research. Upon completion, the fellow is expected to progress to independent research positions externally, equipped with enhanced technical and professional skills. This role represents an opportunity to engage in ambitious, impactful cybersecurity research that supports European digital infrastructure security imperatives.
