Role overview

Royal Mail is hiring Posties (Postal Delivery Drivers) in Stirling to deliver letters and parcels while representing a service that is closely tied to the local community. This is a permanent position based at Stirling Delivery Office, FK7 7XX.

Pay and contract details

The hourly rate is £13.68, with pay processed monthly and overtime available. This position is a permanent contract. The working pattern includes one 37-hour role and one 30-hour role, spread over 5 days out of 6 from Monday to Saturday, with shifts running between 11:00 and 12:15 / 18:24 and 18:15.

What the role involves

• Preparing letters and parcels at the delivery office before leaving for the route.
• Delivering mail on foot and by van across the local Stirling area.
• Creating positive customer relationships through regular contact in the community.
• Working outside in all weather conditions as part of the daily routine.

The job includes more than standard mail delivery, such as bringing important exam results, birthday cards, business items, and other time-sensitive or meaningful parcels. The work can be demanding, but it is also rewarding.

Working style and expectations

This is a physical, fast-moving role that may involve walking up to 12 miles or more than 20,000 steps in a day, driving a Royal Mail van every day, handling large parcel volumes, and meeting deadlines in busy periods. The rota is rotating, routes may change depending on demand, and some weekend work is included.

Candidate profile

Royal Mail will provide full training, a uniform, and a red delivery van. Applicants should be dependable, motivated, organised, resilient, and comfortable working independently while keeping customer service at the centre of the job.

Requirements

• A full manual UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points, and it must be registered in the applicant’s current name and address.
• Confidence and willingness to drive a Royal Mail van every day, plus the ability to complete a driving assessment.
• The physical ability to walk long distances, manage stairs and hills, and lift or carry mailbags of 10kg or more.
• A strong sense of reliability, self-management, and resilience in a busy setting.
• Good organisational ability and a customer-first attitude.
• Comfort working outdoors and alone for much of the day.

Additional information

Benefits may differ based on contract length and start date, and some benefits may only apply after qualifying periods. For candidate search purposes, jobs between 35 and 37 hours per week are shown as full-time; however, any contract under 37 hours per week is treated as part-time in the employment contract. Postal Delivery Drivers are expected to deliver all items securely, including election materials and certain regulated items such as food products or alcohol, in line with Royal Mail business standards.
