Job description
Overview
Join Vancouver Coastal Health as a Porter at Vancouver General Hospital, where you will play an essential role in supporting patient care through safe and timely transportation of clients within the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Transport patients of all ages, including those critically ill or deceased, between hospital departments using wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds.
- Assist nursing and technical staff with lifting and transferring patients as necessary.
- Maintain supplies and clean equipment and storage areas in designated locations.
- Collect and deliver equipment, specimens, blood products, and other materials as assigned.
- Operate office equipment such as facsimile machines and photocopiers when required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of Grade 12 education.
- At least one year of recent and relevant experience in an acute care or hospital environment, or an equivalent mix of education and recent related experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
- Ability to interact effectively with colleagues, patients, and families.
- Physical fitness to perform job duties.
- Organizational skills to manage workload efficiently.
- Competence in operating relevant equipment safely.
Additional Information
- Working hours and days off may vary based on operational needs and in accordance with collective agreements and laws.
- Successful candidates must complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
- Compliance with Ministry of Health vaccination and infection history reporting policies is mandatory for onboarding.
