Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Director of EIA Health Quality, Safety, Ambulatory, the Population Health Analyst will be responsible for gathering data, verifying metrics, measuring performance and health outcomes, benchmarking, stratifying data, and visually presenting analytical findings. The role centers around a strong commitment to quality improvement and requires collaboration with clinical and business partners to identify necessary analyses and reports that can enhance patient care.
Key Responsibilities
The Analyst will collaborate closely with the Population Health team and clinical leadership on initiatives covering multiple Population Health areas. Expertise in evidence-based clinical care processes is essential, especially concerning timely preventive services for adults and children, chronic disease management, and minimizing avoidable inpatient and emergency visits. Primary tasks involve report writing, dashboard creation, chart abstraction, and measure development/validation supporting UCSF Medical Center’s quality incentive programs. Ensuring precise and actionable data reporting to internal and external stakeholders through chart reviews, data analysis, and teamwork is a critical aspect of this position.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience/training.
- Three to five years of data analytics experience within an academic medical center.
- Epic Clarity certification and access to the respective database.
- Advanced knowledge of Epic clinical and administrative workflow systems.
- Familiarity with quality improvement and patient safety procedures.
- Comprehensive understanding of HEDIS quality standards and other regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint or similar software; ability to generate analytical reports and summarize findings.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage complex data and devise practical solutions.
- Excellent organizational and project management capabilities.
- Advanced communication skills for clearly conveying complex information and delivering presentations to varied audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills facilitating collaboration with managers and professional/technical staff.
- Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team, with flexibility to support operations across all UCSF Medical Center sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or related disciplines.
- In-depth business intelligence expertise including advanced analytics, industry standards, and best practices.
- Advanced skills in internal databases, BI tools, and systems.
- Knowledge of OMOP database and data standardization.
- Experience as a technical advisor on business intelligence matters.
- Statistical proficiency.
- Strong awareness of UCSF operations and current health policy trends.
