Job description

Role overview

Based in Wellington, this permanent full-time role sits within a team focused on strengthening health outcomes across Aotearoa New Zealand. As a Policy Analyst, you will help shape evidence-based policy that supports better decisions and real-world impact for communities nationwide.

You will work collaboratively across the organisation to contribute to policy design, implementation, and review. The role offers the chance to strengthen your policy capability while helping advance equity and supporting obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Key duties

  • Prepare, review, and improve policy material, including advice, legislation, and guidance, so it is clear, high quality, and aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Assist with the delivery of initiatives by monitoring progress, coordinating tasks, and contributing to evaluations that drive better outcomes and ongoing improvement.
  • Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to support joined-up policy development and effective collaboration.
  • Use sound analysis and critical thinking to develop practical options, identify improvement opportunities, and provide well-reasoned advice.
  • Incorporate equity considerations, effective process, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi responsibilities into all areas of work.

What you will bring

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, along with policy knowledge or experience in developing advice within the social policy environment.
  • Strong analytical ability and good judgement to assess issues, weigh options, and support decision-making.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines, maintain accuracy, and manage confidential information appropriately.
  • Confident written and verbal communication skills, plus the ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of people.

Working arrangement and benefits

  • Permanent role based in Wellington.
  • Full-time position.
  • Annual leave entitlement of 4.4 weeks.
  • Wellness allowance available after 12 months of service.
