Police Community Support Officer

Role overview

Hertfordshire Constabulary is looking for Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) to support safer neighbourhoods across the county. In this role, you will provide a visible and reassuring presence, help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, and build stronger links between the police and local communities.

PCSOs are based within Neighbourhood Policing Teams and contribute directly to improving residents’ day-to-day quality of life by taking proactive action on crime and ASB. The role is varied, community-focused and requires strong awareness, communication, judgment and problem-solving skills.

Working pattern

This position involves shift work across evenings and weekends, including some shifts running until 11pm. You may also be asked to work from different locations across the county. The role is available on a full-time or part-time basis, with hours arranged to suit operational needs.

Pay and leave

New starters receive a starting salary of £31,749 per year including shift allowance when working full time (37 hours per week) and the full shift pattern. Pay can rise to £38,169 per year, depending on service length and performance-related pay.

Full-time PCSOs are entitled to at least 178 hours of annual leave (24 days), with the possibility of increasing to 222 hours (30 days) depending on working hours and length of service. You will also receive eight public holidays. Final leave entitlement will be confirmed when you start.

Pension

Successful candidates will be eligible for the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS), a contributory CARE pension scheme with employer contributions from the Constabulary.

This opportunity is also open to redeployees at risk of redundancy and will remain open to them until the conditional offer stage. As part of pre-employment checks, successful candidates must provide a DNA and fingerprint elimination sample. The sample will be used only for contamination elimination purposes and for a speculative check against the relevant database, and it will be stored securely in line with the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR. Supplying this sample is a condition of employment for roles in this category.
