We are looking for a highly experienced Platform Engineer with advanced knowledge in Backstage, TypeScript, Spring Boot, and Java to architect, develop, and maintain a robust Internal Developer Platform (IDP) at an enterprise level.
Core Responsibilities
- Design and develop enhancements for the Backstage Developer Portal including software templates and golden paths to facilitate standardized and automated developer workflows.
- Create custom Backstage plugins for both front-end and back-end using TypeScript.
- Manage Backstage Catalog encompassing entity relationships, system ownership, and metadata governance.
- Integrate Backstage with source control systems, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes clusters, security solutions, and monitoring tools to streamline DevOps processes.
- Develop reusable CI/CD pipeline templates and implement pipeline-as-code frameworks supporting full lifecycle automation from build to deployment to monitoring.
- Implement role-based access control, manage secret storage solutions, and uphold security-first principles in pipeline design.
- Build backend microservices using Java Spring Boot and handle API integrations across platform components.
- Work extensively with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- Promote a superior developer experience by fostering self-service capabilities and maintain detailed documentation, onboarding guides, and best practice standards.
- Ensure platform reliability, scalability, and optimal performance; actively participate in incident analysis, root cause investigations, and continuous service improvement.
- Maintain observability through logging, monitoring, and alerting systems.
Required Experience and Skills
- Overall professional experience ranging from 8 to 15 years.
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience with TypeScript and Java Spring Boot microservices development.
- Documented expertise in implementing and customizing Backstage including plugin development.
- Proficiency with developer portals or internal developer platforms.
- Strong background in API design and integration.
- Familiarity with Git branching models and pull request workflows.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Maven and development in polyglot build environments.
- Knowledge of event streaming platforms such as Kafka.
- Exposure to cloud service providers including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Understanding of service management tool integrations (e.g., Jira Service Management).
- Solid grasp of platform engineering methodologies including golden path and abstraction layers.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or Bitbucket Pipelines.
- Competence in container orchestration and infrastructure automation.
- Familiarity with code quality tools such as Snyk or similar.
Behavioral Attributes
- Effective collaboration skills with engineering teams and security personnel.
- Proactive ownership and self-driven approach to deliver outcomes.
- Strong commitment to scalability, quality, and process optimization.
- Experience working within Agile methodologies.
