Role overview
A prominent international law firm is looking for an experienced plaintiff-side class actions lawyer to join its Toronto office in downtown Toronto. The role offers exposure to complex, high-profile disputes involving shareholders and multinational corporations, with the chance to contribute to litigation of international significance.
What you will do
- Take ownership of class action matters from the first client discussions through settlement, resolution, or trial.
- Shape litigation strategy and prepare key court materials, including pleadings, motion records, certification materials, and settlement documents.
- Appear in court for certification hearings, appeals, and trial proceedings.
- Advise clients on litigation risks, opportunities, and strategic options.
- Work alongside overseas and cross-border legal teams on international files.
- Build and preserve strong working relationships with class members, experts, co-counsel, and other stakeholders.
- Stay current on class action developments and relevant case law.
Qualifications
- A Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws degree, together with active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Between 2 and 10 years of litigation experience involving Canada’s Class Proceedings Act.
- Proven experience in plaintiff-side class actions or mass tort litigation.
- Well-developed courtroom advocacy, negotiation, and file management skills.
- Strong drafting, legal research, and analytical capabilities.
- Self-starting approach and genuine interest in developing a class actions practice.
