About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Physical Security Specialist to serve as the primary action officer for developing, managing, and validating security protocols for Weapons Systems and other U.S. Air Force assets at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM). This role involves managing the security program for the McChord Field Flight line, ensuring proper vetting and issuance of clearance badges for personnel requiring flight line access. You will act as the Physical Security Section's main point of contact for the 627th Security Forces Squadron Commander, focusing on policy and long-range physical security planning. The specialist will monitor security programs, assess their adequacy, and provide expert advice on state-of-the-art methods to address threats and vulnerabilities. This includes planning, analyzing, and developing new physical security techniques, procedures, and policies for diverse applications, as well as developing and coordinating input for force protection plans. A key responsibility is identifying and resolving conflicts between Army and U.S. Air Force security requirements and regulations during inspections.
Duties
- Act as the primary officer for the development, management, validation, and recommendation of security measures for Weapons Systems and U.S. Air Force assets at JBLM.
- Oversee the McChord Field Flight line Security Program, ensuring all personnel with flight line access are properly vetted and issued appropriate clearance badges.
- Serve as the Physical Security Section's liaison to the 627th Security Forces Squadron Commander for policy matters and long-term physical security strategy.
- Monitor existing security programs, evaluate their effectiveness, and advise security officers and commanders on advanced methods to mitigate threats and vulnerabilities.
- Engage in the planning, analysis, and creation of novel physical security techniques, procedures, and policies across various security contexts.
- Develop and coordinate contributions to force protection plans.
- Identify and address discrepancies between Army and U.S. Air Force security requirements and regulations during inspections of U.S. Air Force units.
Requirements
- Appointment is contingent upon a favorable background investigation and a determination of suitability or fitness.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Occasional travel via military or commercial aircraft may be required.
- This position is part of the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program.
- The incumbent must achieve the Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within the first two years of employment.
- Applicants must meet specific employment authority categories to be eligible.
- A minimum of one year of specialized experience is required, including inspecting facilities for security breaches, gathering information on security violations through interviews and observation, and advising personnel on deficiencies and solutions.
- Federal employees must meet the time-in-grade requirement of 52 weeks at the GS-11 level or equivalent.
- Substitution of education for experience is not permitted for this position.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
- A 1-year probationary period is required to evaluate fitness and public interest for continued employment.
