Job description

About the Role

At the Technical University of Munich in München-Garching, we are seeking a full-time scientific staff member in the field of computational design for an innovative microfluidic pump used in bioprinting. The Chair for Product Development and Lightweight Design specializes in developing and optimizing complex technical systems, focusing on enhancing functionality, weight, and cost through novel methodologies and solutions.

Project Focus

This position involves the systematic development of technical solutions for novel products with little or no prior empirical knowledge. This is achieved using simulation models and numerical optimization techniques. The development includes creating simple models either physically motivated or data-driven and extensive Finite Element models utilizing existing methods, which are then subjected to generative approaches or numerical optimizations. Specifically, the role centers on designing a fluid pumping system within an applied project in collaboration with an industrial partner. An important research avenue includes AI-assisted model generation of innovative products.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in chair projects including experiments and acquisition of measurement data.
  • Advance design methods and development tools.
  • Support chair operations including teaching activities and student supervision.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Engineering.
  • Strong foundational knowledge in technical mechanics and ideally continuum mechanics.
  • Experience in mathematical and finite element modeling (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
  • Preferably skills in parametric CAD modeling and experimental execution.
  • Proficiency in German or a well-demonstrated commitment to acquiring it.

What We Offer

  • Diverse innovative research topics.
  • Interdisciplinary and international team environment.
  • Opportunity to pursue a Ph.D. and participate in international exchanges.
  • A full-time scientific staff position with remuneration according to the collective agreement for public service employees (TV-L).

Additional Information

The position is open to individuals with disabilities and such applicants will be given preference if qualifications are equal. The Technical University of Munich is committed to gender equality and supports equal opportunity employment.
