About the Role

Prairie Valley School Division is focused on helping students grow into lifelong learners and active, engaged citizens. This opening is for a permanent full-time Caretaker at Kelliher School in Kelliher, Saskatchewan, starting on August 4, 2026.

Kelliher School serves students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 and has an enrolment of about 130 students. Kelliher is approximately 152 km northeast of Regina.

Role Summary

Reporting to the school administrator for daily operations and the Caretaking Manager for technical matters, the caretaker will help maintain a safe, sanitary, and healthy setting for students, employees, and visitors. The role also involves supporting building operations as part of the school-based and division-wide facilities teams.

Responsibilities

  • Complete scheduled cleaning, maintenance, and grounds-care tasks on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis, following the Caretaker Manual and directions from the Facilities department or school administration.
  • Carry out the required checks on HVAC systems, life safety systems, and facility equipment, including basic visual inspections of fire panels, and keep records accurately and independently.
  • Work with the school administrator and staff to help with school and community functions and activities.
  • Ensure cleaning and paper supplies are kept at sufficient levels.
  • Handle daily building security procedures and respond appropriately to security alarms.
  • Perform small maintenance and repair tasks independently or with support from Facility Maintenance Technicians, and report building concerns to the school administrator and/or Facilities managers.
  • Support efforts to improve building efficiency, including the use of power, energy, and water.
  • Carry out additional duties assigned by the school administrator and/or Caretaking Manager.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma or an equivalent qualification.
  • WHMIS training completed or a willingness to obtain it.
  • At least 3 years of experience in caretaking.
  • Ability to safely use floor-cleaning, stripping, and waxing equipment, as well as outdoor equipment such as snow blowers and lawnmowers.
  • Capability to perform basic building maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and protect the privacy of staff and students.

Compensation and Benefits

The wage range for this position is $22.46 to $26.27 per hour. Benefits include a health plan that is 100% employer-paid and an employer-matched pension plan.

Working Conditions

The schedule is 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday, for 12 months of the year. Additional working conditions, leave provisions, and other benefits are covered under the CUPE Agreement.
