About ClearCaptions

ClearCaptions was established in 2011 with a mission to help seniors and their caregivers live with greater independence and better communication. The company focuses on serving people who are hard of hearing through near real-time phone captioning technology, human captioning, enhanced automatic speech recognition, and product innovation. As an FCC-certified telephone captioning provider, it emphasizes privacy, security, professionalism, and service quality.

Who Thrives in This Role

  • People who enjoy variety, challenge, and a dynamic pace.
  • Problem-solvers who are comfortable in a flexible, collaborative environment.
  • Individuals who take initiative, think creatively, and like to push improvements forward.
  • Professionals with a growth mindset who value learning and relationship building.
  • Candidates who align with the company values of Integrity, Accountability, Collaboration, Service, and Quality.

Role Overview

The People Generalist works closely with the People Business Partner team to support employee questions, policy guidance, operational processes, and lower-complexity employee relations matters. This role is a hands-on resource for documentation, reporting, process execution, and maintaining internal procedures and knowledge materials. It also helps identify issues that need escalation, supporting a consistent employee experience and smooth delivery of People programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on day-to-day People policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Monitor shared People inboxes and the ticketing system, ensuring employee questions are triaged, answered, tracked, and resolved in a timely way.
  • Support lower-complexity employee relations matters by gathering facts, documenting cases, following up on actions, coordinating case intake, scheduling meetings and interviews, and escalating sensitive or high-risk issues when needed.
  • Assist with corrective action documentation, performance-related paperwork, and exit interviews in coordination with the dedicated People Business Partner.
  • Support People Business Partners with tactical and administrative work, workflow coordination, and execution of People initiatives and processes.
  • Handle operational activities such as adverse action background checks, employment verifications, unemployment claims, and other related processes.
  • Partner with Payroll, Benefits, and other internal teams as required.
  • Maintain SOPs, templates, process documentation, and team resources to improve consistency and standardization.
  • Create, update, and analyze Excel-based reports and tracking tools to identify trends and support People operations, engagement, compliance, and employee relations reporting.
  • Spot operational gaps and improvement opportunities, then escalate them appropriately.
  • Support audit preparation, compliance reporting, and documentation management.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow People policies and employment practices while staying current on relevant employment laws.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An associate degree in human resources, business, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • At least 2 years of experience in HR, employee relations, People operations, or a similar area.
  • Experience supporting employees and managers in fast-paced remote work settings.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, HR policies, and People practices.
  • Strong customer service orientation and a helpful employee-support mindset.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and support teammates in shared processes.
  • Excellent communication, relationship management, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.
  • Strong discretion, sound judgment, and the ability to protect confidential information.
  • Good organization and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and consistency in execution.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when needed and travel up to 10%, including occasional overnight trips.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and virtual collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams and Slack.
  • Preferred: intermediate Excel and reporting capability.
  • Preferred: ability to identify trends, risks, and process gaps and raise them appropriately.
  • Preferred: experience updating SOPs and process documentation.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This is a 100% remote role with travel. The position is primarily home-office based but may also involve visits to customer or vendor sites and other business meeting locations. Travel can include changing weather and temperature conditions, driving, and traffic-related risks, and is expected to be about 10%, including possible overnight and out-of-state travel.

Under ADA and applicable state and local laws, reasonable accommodations may be provided to qualified individuals with documented disabilities, unless doing so would create undue hardship. Employees who need accommodation should contact the People Department to begin the interactive process.

For extended periods, the role may involve:

  • Sitting, standing, and walking for 90–100% of the time.
  • Keyboard use for 95–100% of the time.
  • Looking at a computer monitor, tablet, or cell phone requiring close vision for 70–90% of the time.

The salary range for this role is $56,000 to $70,000 per year, based on market review and internal equity. Final pay will depend on the candidate’s background, experience, and business needs. A comprehensive benefits package is available as part of the company’s total rewards program.
