Role overview

Compassus is seeking a Human Resources Business Partner to support divisional and regional leadership in the Western United States. This position must be based in either Mountain Standard Time or Pacific Standard Time. The partner is expected to uphold the Code of Ethical Conduct and help build strong working relationships across departments, with internal teams, and with external stakeholders.

What you will do

  • Partner with business leaders on talent, leadership, business strategy, organizational design, organization development, compensation and rewards, and workplace culture.
  • Lead or support others in delivering strategic and operational objectives.
  • Identify recurring HR issues and share root-cause insights with the appropriate HR teams to improve programs and policies.
  • Monitor the market and benchmark best practices and emerging trends to inform business and HR priorities.
  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor, change partner, and member of the leadership team.
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and evaluate team members to support effective operations.
  • Build and run company-wide initiatives such as recognition programs, workforce planning, culture efforts, and organizational change activities.
  • Handle escalations and disputes through established company processes and policy guidelines.
  • Receive, document, and triage employee concerns before routing them to the correct owner, then follow up to ensure closure.
  • Advise Operations teams on pay practices and related coaching support.
  • Prepare HR performance reporting and metrics.
  • Respond to subpoenas and requests from outside agencies or external entities as needed.
  • Work with outside vendors and coordinate closely with internal departments to resolve employee issues.
  • Support project coordination for performance management administration, open enrollment, and other ongoing initiatives.
  • Track and follow up on benefit questions, 401(k) issues, and benefit/ACA audit items throughout the year.
  • Create, edit, and maintain employment documents and forms.
  • Recommend process, policy, and procedure improvements that increase department efficiency and service quality.
  • Take on additional duties as assigned.

Experience and education

A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will bring 5 to 7 years of experience in HR or healthcare back-office operations.

Skills and knowledge

This role requires solid numerical ability, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to read and interpret business, technical, and regulatory materials. The position also calls for effective presentation skills, confidence in working with leaders and external parties, and the ability to work in English. Familiarity with hospice philosophy is important.

Certifications

Professional HR certifications such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP are considered an advantage.

Physical requirements

The job involves regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity. The role may require lifting and moving items up to 25 pounds. Visual requirements include near and far vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
