Job description

About the Company

Darwin offers a unique Australian lifestyle with breathtaking harbour sunsets, vibrant markets, a flourishing food and bar scene, and access to remarkable natural attractions such as Kakadu, Litchfield, and the Tiwi Islands. This city represents a harmonious blend of career opportunities and quality of life.

At the center of this dynamic environment are the Novotel, Mercure, and ibis Darwin Airport Resorts, currently undergoing an exciting $25 million upgrade by Airport Development Group. These improvements span accommodations, dining, and event venues, all nestled within freshly landscaped tropical gardens that embody the spirit of the Top End.

As a component of the global Accor network, which comprises over 5,700 hotels in 110 countries, the company is driven by the mission to innovate responsible hospitality and foster cultural connections with genuine care.

Role Overview

This leadership opportunity invites a confident individual to oversee and develop the People & Culture (P&C) function at Darwin Airport Resort. You will guide the department heads, providing mentorship on performance management, workforce challenges, and the complexities of managing teams within a busy multi-brand hospitality setting.

Supported by a People & Culture Coordinator and the General Manager, you will have the autonomy to shape strategy, culture, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive P&C strategy that nurtures the Heartist Culture and supports department managers.
  • Lead recruitment and retention efforts aligned to operational demands and Accor’s workforce standards.
  • Supervise and enhance the skills of the People & Culture Coordinator, ensuring effective P&C daily operations.
  • Collaborate with resort leadership on workforce planning, organizational design, and staffing optimization.
  • Ensure consistent induction, on-the-job training, and probation reviews are conducted for all new employees.
  • Advise supervisors and managers on handling performance management, workplace relations, and sensitive conversations.
  • Handle employee and industrial relations issues promptly, maintaining thorough documentation of all relevant interactions.
  • Leverage Employee Engagement Survey insights to implement targeted improvements across departments and the entire resort.
  • Champion P&C initiatives including rewards, recognition, employee wellbeing, talent management, and leadership development programs.
  • Oversee compliance training completion and maintain accurate training and personnel records across all three hotels.
  • Prepare monthly P&C reports aligned with Regional P&C expectations.
  • Contribute to the Annual Business Plan and Financial Budget relating to the P&C function for the resort.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A tertiary qualification in Human Resources or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years in a similar P&C role, ideally within the hospitality industry or managing multiple sites.
  • Proven experience leading complex employee relations investigations and interpreting Modern Awards.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities to build strong relationships across various stakeholders and brands.
  • Demonstrated integrity, adaptability, and the competence to lead through organizational change.
  • Experience in managing or mentoring staff reports is highly regarded.
  • Applicants must have full legal working rights in Australia; no sponsorship opportunities are available.
