Job description
About the Organization
Ignite Child Development Services is a clinician-led ABA therapy organization that supports children with autism and developmental challenges across five locations in Wisconsin. The team is BCBA-led and family-focused, with an emphasis on making evidence-based care available to families from all neighborhoods and communities. The Appleton center offers a team-based setting where BCBAs, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and mental health professionals coordinate closely to support each child’s progress.
To strengthen its diagnostic services, the organization is looking for a licensed psychologist to work in a dedicated independent contractor role focused on psychoeducational and autism assessments for young children ages 2 to 6.
Role Overview
In this contractor position, your primary responsibility is to complete high-quality autism diagnostic evaluations for children aged 2 to 6 at the Appleton site. This is a tightly defined diagnostics-only role: there is no therapy caseload, no supervisory responsibility, and no ongoing clinical management outside the assessment process. The work includes evaluation, scoring, interpretation, and report writing. Your assessments help families move forward with services, making timely and accurate documentation essential.
What the Role Calls For
The ideal professional is a licensed psychologist with strong early-childhood autism evaluation experience and comfort working with very young children, including those who may be minimally verbal, distressed, or hard to engage. Familiarity with administering the ADOS-2, CARS-2, and related tools is important, along with the ability to produce reports that are thorough, practical, and easy for parents to understand. This is a good fit for someone who values professional independence while also appreciating a supportive, collaborative clinical environment without the burden of managing a private office.
Responsibilities
- Carry out complete psychoeducational and autism-focused diagnostic evaluations for children ages 2 to 6 referred through Ignite.
- Use standardized assessment tools as clinically appropriate, which may include the ADOS-2, CARS-2, Vineland-3, cognitive testing, and parent-completed measures.
- Review developmental and medical background before each assessment session.
- Prepare and submit full written evaluation reports within one week of testing, including diagnostic conclusions and recommendations.
- Join family feedback sessions and explain results in clear, non-technical language.
- Work with Ignite’s clinical team when needed to support a smooth transition into therapy services after diagnosis.
- Keep documentation and records aligned with HIPAA requirements and applicable Wisconsin regulations.
Required Qualifications
- Active and unrestricted Wisconsin license as a Psychologist (LP, PsyD, or PhD).
- Hands-on experience using autism diagnostic tools, especially the ADOS-2, with children ages 2 to 6.
- Training and competence in a full early-childhood psychoeducational assessment battery.
- Background working with autistic children, children with developmental delays, and their families.
- Strong report-writing and written communication skills, with the ability to create clinically sound and parent-friendly documentation.
- Capacity to complete and deliver evaluation reports within seven days of testing.
- Current professional liability insurance, or willingness to obtain it.
Preferred Background
- ADOS-2 research reliability or formal certification/training.
- Experience in an ABA setting or a multidisciplinary pediatric practice.
- Familiarity with Wisconsin Medicaid (ForwardHealth) and commercial insurance credentialing.
- Bilingual ability, especially Spanish or another language commonly used in the Appleton area.
Performance Expectations
- Reports completed within 7 days or less after testing.
- Evaluation documentation that is accurate, complete, and ready for peer review.
- Strong family experience and positive feedback after results are reviewed.
- Few appointment changes, reschedules, or cancellations.
Compensation and Working Arrangement
This is a 1099 independent contractor opportunity, not an employee role. Two flexible pay models are available:
- A fixed hourly rate for billable time spent on direct evaluation work, family feedback sessions, and report preparation.
- A percentage-based arrangement tied to collections for each evaluation.
Exact compensation details are discussed during the interview process.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Flexible scheduling, with control over your own hours and evaluation calendar.
- Focused diagnostics work only, with no therapy caseload or supervisory obligations.
- On-site work in Appleton, so there is no need to secure your own office space or handle independent referrals.
- Access to a collaborative multidisciplinary team and an established referral flow.
- Work that directly helps families move off waitlists and into care.
