About Salted
Salted is a leading delivery-first restaurant group in the United States, focused on making better-for-you food widely accessible. The company emphasizes clean-label, plant-based dishes and a dining experience that combines innovation with great taste.
Role Summary
This position sits at the crossroads of payroll, HR systems, and people operations. The person in this role will oversee the full payroll process across multiple states, act as the primary HRIS resource, keep employee records accurate, and help systems scale as the organization grows. A major part of the job is also maintaining kitchen compliance by tracking licenses, permits, certifications, and renewals across all operating jurisdictions. The role supports managers and employees by simplifying workflows, answering questions clearly, and reducing unnecessary manual work. Success in this position depends on both precision and a practical, service-oriented approach.
Key Impact Areas
- Manage recurring payroll across multiple states, ensuring wages, tax deductions, and compliance are handled correctly for operations in 8+ states including CA, TX, FL, GA, CO, IL, NJ, VA, and others.
- Serve as the owner of the HRIS by maintaining employee records, coordinating onboarding and offboarding flows, handling organization structure updates, and protecting data accuracy across integrated tools.
- Oversee compliance tracking for kitchen locations, including business licenses, health permits, food handler certificates, sales tax registrations, and other recurring regulatory requirements so nothing expires unnoticed.
- Take care of payroll tax registrations and filings as the business expands into new states.
- Support benefits administration, including enrollment, payroll deductions, and reporting, in coordination with HR.
- Create and maintain spreadsheet-based trackers that improve visibility into headcount, payroll spending, and compliance status.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts during monthly close and work with accounting on accruals and corrections.
- Spot process gaps and implement improvements to help systems scale with the company’s growth.
- Answer payroll and HRIS questions from employees and managers with accuracy, care, and a practical mindset.
- Make daily people processes smoother by improving workflows, clarifying responsibilities, and helping managers and employees get the support they need.
Experience and Qualifications
The company is looking for someone with 2 to 4 years of experience in payroll, HRIS administration, people operations, or a similar function. Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills are important, especially comfort with formulas and large data sets. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change. Clear communication skills are essential, along with the ability to explain payroll and system topics to non-technical colleagues. The role also requires initiative, quick learning, reliable follow-through, and an interest in operations work that has a direct effect on business performance. A degree in HR, business, accounting, or a related area is preferred.
Compensation
The annual salary range for this role is $75,000 to $95,000.
Benefits
- Unlimited paid time off
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage
- 401(k) plan with employer matching of up to 4% after one year
