Role Summary
The Payroll Specialist will operate within the Asia-Pacific region, responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll services. Reporting to Payroll Manager Mat Harrington based in Sydney, this role involves managing payroll processing, records, reconciliations, and reporting, while collaborating with People & Culture, Finance, leadership teams, and external vendors to resolve payroll issues and improve processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately process and validate payroll for Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, and China.
- Maintain comprehensive payroll records including timekeeping, leave, and employee benefits data.
- Administer superannuation, health insurance, commissions, bonuses, and various employee benefits.
- Perform payroll reconciliations including payroll tax, insurance, and superannuation payments.
- Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, tax requirements, and statutory reporting obligations.
- Prepare payroll reports and support financial month-end, year-end, and audit activities.
- Deliver responsive payroll support to colleagues, management, and external providers.
- Identify and implement improvements to payroll processes, controls, and automation systems.
Candidate Profile and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of comprehensive payroll experience in complex, multi-country environments within the APAC region.
- Proficiency with payroll platforms such as Access Payroll or MicrOpay is essential.
- Sound expertise in payroll legislation, compliance, and statutory obligations.
- Experienced with payroll validation, gross-to-net calculations, and quality assurance.
- Advanced capabilities with Excel, including data analysis, pivot tables, and working with large datasets.
- Strong multi-tasking skills managing multiple payroll cycles across different countries and time zones.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with effective stakeholder management.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting Workday implementations and payroll transformation initiatives.
- Familiarity with outsourced payroll providers in the APAC region.
- Knowledge of payroll journal entries, general ledger reconciliations, and associated finance activities.
- Demonstrated ability in enhancing payroll processes and systems.
- Experience working within matrix, regional, or shared services environments is advantageous.
