About the Role

AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited is advancing the redevelopment of the Obuasi Gold Mine into a modern, highly efficient, and profitable long-term underground operation. The mine is being redesigned as a fully mechanized site with a target average output of up to 5,000 tonnes of ore per day. In this context, the company is looking for a proactive and experienced Payroll Officer to support the payroll team in Obuasi.

Role Purpose

This position exists to provide monthly payroll support to the Payroll Superintendent, helping ensure staff wages, salaries, and related benefits are processed accurately and paid on schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up newly hired employees in the payroll system and configure all relevant earnings and deductions, such as duty allowance and provident fund contributions.
  • Support the end-to-end payroll process and make sure all pay groups, including employees and statutory bodies such as IRS and SSNIT, are paid correctly and on time.
  • Prepare monthly basic salary reconciliations for all pay groups and complete payment requests for approval.
  • Help implement statutory legislation, company policies, the collective bargaining agreement, and internal procedures.
  • Review and resolve payroll-related questions raised by Human Resources, government agencies, and employees.
  • Assist with producing and distributing payroll outputs such as payslips, bank payment lists, leave accrual records, general ledger reports, and social security, tax, and pension schedules for Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4.
  • Work with pension fund managers and employees to address payroll and pension-related concerns.
  • Support payroll administration for employee pay, leave, back pay, annual bonuses, and month-end activities.

Requirements

  • A degree in Accounting, an HND in Accounting, or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a mining environment.
  • Strong computer skills, with advanced ability in spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the full mining cycle.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Effective communication and writing skills.
  • Capability in business improvement and change management.
  • Solid understanding of the value drivers of Obuasi Mine.
  • High ethical standards and moral integrity.
  • A result-driven mindset with sound technical and professional competence.
