Job description

Role overview

An established client in Perth’s inner suburbs is looking for a seasoned Payroll Officer to become part of a busy, collaborative payroll function. In this position, you will report to the Payroll Manager and help deliver accurate, on-time payroll processing across several Australian payrolls within a multi-entity setup. The assignment is an initial 12-month contract, with a chance to move into a permanent role for the right person.

Key responsibilities

  • Handle end-to-end payroll processing for weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay cycles across multiple entities.
  • Keep employee payroll data up to date, including onboarding, exits and other employee changes.
  • Process leave, allowances, overtime, deductions and other payroll corrections.
  • Make sure payroll operations align with the relevant laws, awards, enterprise agreements and internal policies.
  • Answer payroll-related questions from employees and internal stakeholders quickly and professionally.
  • Support payroll reconciliations, reporting, superannuation administration and payroll tax obligations.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end payroll tasks, including STP and compliance reporting.
  • Help identify and implement improvements to payroll procedures and system capability.

Candidate profile

  • Prior experience working as a Payroll Officer in an Australian payroll environment.
  • Solid knowledge of payroll legislation, awards and compliance standards.
  • Background handling payroll in a high-volume, fast-moving setting.
  • Exposure to multi-entity payroll operations is highly desirable.
  • Experience with ADP and Kronos would be a strong advantage.
  • Excellent accuracy, practical problem-solving ability and comfort working independently.
  • Self-driven, hands-on and a strong communicator.

What makes this role appealing

  • A busy payroll environment with processing spread across different cycles and frequencies.
  • Pay runs cover small to medium volumes.
  • Continuous emphasis on improving payroll systems, workflows and efficiency.
  • Supportive team culture with flexible arrangements and work-from-home options available.
