Job description

About the role

2degrees is looking for a Payroll Advisor to help keep employee pay accurate and on time while also supporting more efficient payroll practices across the organisation. The company’s mission is to Fight for Fair, and the culture is described as customer-focused, willing to challenge the usual way of doing things, accountable, and caring toward employees.

In this position, you will be a key part of delivering dependable payroll support and a smooth employee experience. The role calls for strong judgement and the ability to solve problems in more complex payroll situations, while maintaining fairness and compliance. You will also have opportunities to contribute to payroll process improvements and other People team initiatives. Part-time working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage end-to-end payroll advisory work, including complex payroll scenarios and questions from stakeholders.
  • Ensure payroll decisions and actions align with New Zealand payroll legislation and ethical standards.
  • Take initiative to identify and implement improvements that make payroll processes more effective.
  • Use payroll platforms such as iChris or Chris21, with a focus on improving systems and workflows where possible.
  • Handle payroll data, reporting, and audit-related work with strong analytical attention.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with employees and business stakeholders when resolving payroll matters.

What we're looking for

  • Proven background in an advisory payroll role covering full payroll cycles.
  • Confidence in managing challenging payroll issues and responding to stakeholder queries.
  • Solid understanding of NZ payroll law and the judgement to apply it appropriately.
  • A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of improvements.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as iChris/Chris21.
  • Strong analytical ability for payroll records, reporting, and audits.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication with a supportive and considerate approach.

Benefits and support

  • Flexible work options to help balance personal and professional commitments.
  • Access to wellbeing support, including health and wellness resources and employee assistance programmes.
  • Opportunities to build your career and take part in wider business projects.
  • Discounted plans and products for employees and their whānau.
