Job description

Overview

A well-established and expanding payroll bureau near Lewes is seeking a skilled Payroll Administrator to join their permanent full-time team. This role offers a salary up to £30,000 and hybrid work arrangements, with three days in-office and two days remote per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the complete payroll process for a variety of clients with different pay cycles.
  • Carefully entering and verifying payroll data for accuracy.
  • Reconciling payroll details and generating reports along with payslips.
  • Preparing payroll journals and handling PAYE reconciliations.
  • Creating and submitting BACS payment files for payroll outflows.
  • Managing pension auto-enrolment processes and ensuring ongoing compliance.
  • Preparing pension scheme submissions and updating member records accordingly.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, HMRC, pension providers, and internal teams.
  • Keeping informed on current payroll regulations and best operational practices.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven payroll administration experience within a bureau setting.
  • Capability to manage multiple payrolls simultaneously while meeting firm deadlines.
  • Thorough understanding of PAYE, National Insurance, pensions, and statutory payments.
  • Ability to manually calculate relevant deductions including tax, NI, pensions, and statutory amounts.
  • Knowledge of statutory family leave, statutory sick pay, salary sacrifice schemes, and auto-enrolment procedures.
  • Strong communication and client relationship management skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Competency in intermediate-level Excel and confident use of payroll software.
  • Proactive, flexible, and adaptable work approach.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required due to the job location.
