Keeping Families Covered is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in northern Illinois committed to providing essential hygiene items to individuals and families of all ages. Through community partnerships and direct outreach, the organization distributes diapers, period supplies, and incontinence products to those in need, aiming to eliminate hygiene barriers and foster healthier families and communities across Illinois.
Role Overview
The Marketing and Events Specialist will work part-time, reporting to the Director of Development and collaborating with key team members. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and managing a variety of events such as fundraising, donor appreciation, campaign-specific, and the organization’s annual flagship event. Additionally, the specialist manages marketing materials including design and production of collateral, emails, newsletters, videos, and social media content to boost brand awareness and engage diverse audiences.
Location & Schedule
The role is based at the Lake County Office in Waukegan, IL, requiring 20-25 hours weekly with some in-office presence and opportunities for remote work depending on tasks. Overtime requires prior approval.
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly pay ranges from $25 to $28. Benefits include a supportive team environment, 40 hours of paid time off annually, a 401(K) plan without company match, holiday events, office snacks and coffee, and growth potential within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Support weekly communication efforts across social media, email, and print channels following the Communications Calendar.
- Design and layout the quarterly e-newsletter and generate engaging social media content aligned with organizational messaging.
- Write and source educational articles to raise awareness about the organization's mission and services.
- Collect and produce photo/video content from events and outreach efforts for various channels.
- Maintain and enforce brand consistency across all marketing materials based on established brand guidelines.
- Develop and manage the events calendar in partnership with leadership and committees, including budget tracking and event theme planning.
- Lead the Events Committee, scheduling meetings, documenting minutes, and coordinating follow-up tasks.
- Research and negotiate with vendors for event locations and services seeking quality and cost-efficiency.
- Coordinate event promotion including soliciting in-kind donations for raffles and auctions.
- Serve as primary on-site contact overseeing event setup, execution, troubleshooting, and teardown.
- Collect feedback post-event and assist in financial reporting and content preparation following events.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; associate degree or higher in marketing, communications, graphic design, or related fields preferred.
- A minimum of three years' experience in marketing or event coordination with proven successful project delivery.
- Familiarity with nonprofit operations, missions, and procedures is essential.
- Knowledge of graphic design principles, social media best practices, and brand adherence.
- Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, planning, and execution skills.
- Willingness to collaborate creatively, accept leadership direction, and incorporate feedback.
- Experience in event marketing or planning in hospitality or fundraising contexts is highly desirable.
- Proven negotiation skills regarding vendor contracts and partnerships.
- Capability to manage multiple simultaneous projects effectively and independently.
- Budget management experience for marketing and event expenses.
- Technical proficiency with tools like Hootsuite, Canva, Constant Contact, WordPress, social media platforms, event management software, CRM, and Microsoft Office.
- Additional experience in banquet, catering, guest services, or hospitality roles is advantageous.
