Overview
This role is based at HM Prison Rochester, located in Rochester, England. It offers an exceptional opportunity to apply your catering expertise within a professional industrial kitchen environment while making a positive social impact beyond typical catering duties.
Role and Responsibilities
As a key member of the prison’s catering team, you will supervise offender workers as they prepare and cook nutritious and quality meals for the entire prison population. Your involvement contributes to rehabilitative efforts by helping offenders develop skills and gain qualifications aimed at improving their employment prospects and reducing reoffending rates post-release.
Work Hours and Compensation
The position requires a 37-hour workweek with shift schedules covering times outside 7am to 7pm on weekdays, weekends, and public holidays. A 20% unsocial hours supplement is added to your base pay when working these shifts. Part-time and job-sharing options are available depending on operational needs, but all shifts must still be covered. Starting salary is at the minimum band level.

- Band 3 minimum salary including unsocial hours allowance: £34,928
- Band 3 maximum salary including unsocial hours allowance: £36,778
Qualifications and Experience
- Level 2 Certificate in Food Production within Hospitality and Catering, or equivalent qualification
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
- Competency in industrial kitchen settings and knowledge of health, safety, and hygiene regulations
- Proficiency in English communication
Refresher training in food safety (HACCP) is recommended every three years.
