Position Overview
Audacy, Inc. seeks a Part-Time Assistant Producer to join the Programming department at WBBM Newsradio in Chicago, IL. This on-site role requires working under tight deadlines, collaborating effectively, and contributing story ideas. The hourly wage is set at $17.05 for Chicago-based candidates and will be adjusted based on qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit and compile audio from reporters, weather, and network feeds.
- Make calls to verify news stories and conduct research using internet and other sources.
- Handle incoming calls courteously, assess urgency priorities, and assist listeners.
- Screen calls from PR firms, relay messages to reporters, and redirect complaints to management.
- Collect detailed news tips and forward them promptly.
- Return calls to individuals as promised.
- Work accurately under pressing deadlines with attention to detail.
- Manage multiple tasks effectively with high-volume workloads.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by management.
Candidate Qualifications
- A college degree is preferred, particularly with a focus on broadcast journalism.
- Experience from internships or college radio station participation is mandatory.
- Proficiency in digital audio editing techniques is essential.
- Regularly follow news and exhibit sound news judgment.
- Understand basic technical audio standards, such as noise levels and sound clarity.
- Ability to write clearly and manage diverse priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Must have a valid driver's license and pass a motor vehicle record check. If using personal vehicle, proof of insurance is required.
Work Environment and Additional Notes
Shifts may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The position does not allow for remote work and requires on-site presence. Assistant Producers take direction primarily from editors and collaborate closely with other newsroom staff. They represent the station professionally during phone interactions.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting pay is $17.05 per hour.
