Role Summary

This role is positioned on Luno's Over-The-Counter (OTC) desk based in South Africa, reporting directly to the Head of Trading. The trader will price, execute, and manage risks for sizable trades conducted by institutional clients, corporations, and professional traders in a highly active crypto-fiat market. Working within the Treasury team, collaboration with OTC, local teams, and relationship managers will be essential to maintain a profitable trading book.

Key Responsibilities

Take ownership of the client portfolio and serve as the primary contact for institutional and VIP clients, managing large OTC trade pricing, sourcing counter-trades, and executing promptly.
Develop and maintain sustainable client relationships aiming for recurring business rather than isolated transactions.
Oversee the desk's working capital by ensuring trade funding availability or credit support.
Manage trade dispute resolutions end-to-end and coordinate with Trade Operations for smooth settlement.
Conduct trade executions for OTC and market counter-trades adhering to approved strategies.
Hedge market risks related to working capital and revenue streams and manage revenue liquidation trades.
Monitor and manage the desk’s profit and loss against set goals and risk regulations, with detailed knowledge and accountability.
Drive the evolution of trading strategies including OTC, hedging, revenue liquidation, derivatives, arbitrage, and warehousing, focusing on risk and profit optimization.
Perform thorough market analysis of digital assets, including trend identification, risk factors, regulatory news, and flow impacts.
Deliver daily market updates and contribute insights to broader Treasury and company decisions.
Ensure meticulous record-keeping of trades, profit/loss, risk exposure, and overall performance with audit readiness.
Provide regular detailed reporting to stakeholders concerning trading activities and market perspectives.
Contribute to trading and risk system enhancements and promote automation to transition from manual to systematic execution.
Regularly evaluate and challenge existing risk frameworks and models, suggesting modifications as market conditions evolve.

Candidate Profile

3 to 5 years experience in trading within brokerage or sell-side OTC desks, preferably in crypto, FX, equities, or derivatives markets.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
Experience or knowledge of derivatives arbitrage is advantageous.
Higher qualifications such as CFA, CAIA, or MBA are beneficial.
Proven successful track record in broking or OTC trading across multiple markets.
Aspirations for career growth within the desk, aiming towards broader market roles and senior trading leadership.
