Job description

Position Overview

The Government of Manitoba's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure is seeking a committed Operator to join the Bridge Maintenance Crews located in Stony Mountain, MB. This role involves skilled operation and upkeep of maintenance equipment and tools, contributing to the safety and reliability of provincial bridges and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within a team of 5 to 10 members to perform maintenance on bridges throughout Manitoba.
  • Operate and care for maintenance machinery, small hand tools, and power tools.
  • Carry out physical labor associated with bridge upkeep to safeguard workers and the public.
  • Follow instructions diligently under the supervision of the Area Works Supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience in manual or physical labor activities.
  • Competency in handling, repairing, and maintaining hand and power tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills suited for teamwork.
  • Ability to comprehend and execute oral and written instructions.
  • Self-motivated with capacity to work independently.
  • Clear verbal communication abilities.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with Occupational Safety, Health, and Risk Management principles.
  • Experience in carpentry and metal fabrication including welding.
  • Experience operating light or heavy machinery.
  • Skills in concrete work such as forming, mixing, placing, and finishing.
  • Background in highway, bridge, or roadway construction and maintenance or comparable construction experience.

Conditions and Employment Terms

  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Possession of a valid class 5 driver's license and willingness to upgrade to class 3 with air brake endorsement within six months.
  • Certification in handling core heavy equipment including a 5-ton tandem truck and at least two from forklift, skid steer, or under bridge crane (training supplied).
  • Physical capability to perform demanding tasks including lifting up to 75 pounds and working under all weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and travel across Manitoba for up to two weeks at a stretch.

Additional Information
