Job description

About Vulcan

Vulcan has been building its reputation since 1995 and is now recognised as one of Australasia’s strongest-performing metals distributors and processors. Its ongoing expansion has been driven by reliable service and a constant focus on improving every part of the business.

The company also places a strong emphasis on inclusion and diversity. Its workforce includes people from more than 70 countries and over 90 ethnic backgrounds across its locations.

About the Role

This is a practical, floor-based Operations Manager position responsible for the smooth running of daily warehouse activity. The role centres on operational efficiency, team performance, and a strong people focus. Standard working hours are 7:30am to 4:00pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run warehouse activities across receiving, storage, dispatch, and stock control.
  • Coordinate logistics and forklift activity to keep work moving efficiently.
  • Review existing processes and introduce improvements to operations and procedures.
  • Supervise, coach, and support a team of nine warehouse employees.
  • Promote a high standard of safety and ensure compliance requirements are met.
  • Work in a proactive, accountable way with an owner-operator mindset.
  • Help build and maintain a positive, team-oriented workplace culture.
  • Use basic computer systems for tracking tasks and coordinating work.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated background in warehouse or logistics operations.
  • Strong capability in leading and managing teams.
  • Highly organised with a self-motivated, hands-on approach.
  • Current forklift licence is required.
  • Comfort using computers; strong Excel skills are an advantage.
  • Experience in the metals sector is desirable, though not essential.
  • MR or HR licence would be beneficial, but it is not mandatory.
  • Strong commitment to personal and team safety.
  • Ability to turn business goals into clear actions and measurable results for the team.

Additional Information

Because safety is a priority, candidates who progress successfully will need to complete a pre-employment drug screen.

Applicants must already be living in Australia or hold a valid work visa relevant to this role.

Benefits

  • Join an ambitious organisation that values innovation and expansion.
  • Take the lead with a capable and committed warehouse team.
  • Have the chance to influence the company’s future in a meaningful way.
  • Enjoy a professional yet relaxed working environment.
