Job description

Role overview

We are seeking an Operations Accountant in Canada for a partner organization that handles its own application review and next steps. This role is central to keeping everyday financial operations accurate, orderly, and efficient in a mission-driven setting.

The position focuses on accounts payable and accounts receivable activity, adherence to internal controls and accounting standards, and support for reliable financial reporting across several operational functions. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, vendors, and other partners to clear discrepancies and keep financial processes moving smoothly.

This is a hands-on, detail-focused role that calls for strong analytical ability, good judgement, and a commitment to financial accuracy and transparency. The work environment is collaborative, structured, and purpose-led, with room for learning and professional development.

Key responsibilities

  • Examine, code, and process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, making sure records are accurate, complete, and properly supported.
  • Draft journal entries and complete account reconciliations so that accounting records remain correct and are posted in the appropriate period.
  • Maintain vendor information, answer questions from vendors, and track unresolved items through to closure.
  • Record donations, prepare charitable receipts, and assign deposits correctly within the general ledger.
  • Oversee tax coding, payment terms, and financial policy compliance, including correct treatment of financial instruments.
  • Provide financial processing assistance, guidance, and procedural support to smaller operational teams.
  • Help with audit readiness, external reporting obligations, and supporting financial documents when required.
  • Spot opportunities to improve processes and document accounting procedures and business needs.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Accounting or a closely related discipline.
  • 2 to 3 years of background in accounting or finance.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles, reconciliations, and journal entry preparation.
  • Strong attention to detail, along with analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Sound judgement when handling complex financial information and workflows.
  • High ethical standards, discretion, and a professional approach to financial management.
  • Clear communication skills for working with both internal colleagues and external contacts.
  • Ability to work independently in a structured environment with firm deadlines.

Benefits and compensation

  • Fully remote position with flexibility and better work-life balance.
  • Competitive compensation of CAD 47,547 to CAD 59,468, with potential to reach CAD 71,361 depending on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits covering health, wellness, and retirement support.
  • Support toward CPA advancement, including educational help and relevant practical experience.
  • Defined internal growth opportunities across finance and operational functions.
  • Supportive, collaborative team culture with a focus on learning and development.
  • Stable, values-driven organization offering meaningful work with social impact.

Application and hiring process

The partner company manages applications and the next stages of the hiring process directly. A matching process is used to evaluate candidates against the role’s core requirements, and shortlisted profiles are shared with the employer for final review. Any interviews, assessments, and final decisions are handled by the hiring team.

Privacy and data processing

By applying, candidates acknowledge that their personal data may be processed to assess candidacy and share relevant details with the hiring employer. This processing may rely on legitimate interest and pre-contractual measures under applicable data protection laws, including GDPR. Applicants may request access, correction, deletion, or objection to their data at any time.

Artificial intelligence tools may be used to support parts of the recruitment workflow, such as application screening, resume analysis, and identifying possible inconsistencies or verification signals in submitted materials. These tools assist the recruitment team but do not replace human judgement, and final hiring decisions are made by people.
