Job description

Role overview

HMP Guys Marsh is hiring an Operational Support Grade to help keep the prison operating safely and efficiently on a day-to-day basis. This position is part of a collaborative team and includes a mix of security-focused duties, visitor management, delivery handling, phone and CCTV monitoring, and other practical tasks that may involve some desk work as well as physical activity such as lifting, carrying, and escorting vehicles across the site.

Who this role suits

This opportunity does not require formal qualifications. It may be a strong fit for someone who communicates well, stays composed in pressured situations, uses sound judgement, and works effectively as part of a team. The role is fast-paced and can be a starting point for a long-term career in prison services.

Key duties

The role supports the smooth and safe running of the prison and contributes to wider public protection by assisting with essential operational work. Working pattern

Pay and benefits

The salary for this role is £29,432. Alongside base pay, the package includes paid leave, bank and public holidays, apprenticeship access, a pension scheme, and several employee benefits.

Additional information

  • Annual leave starts at 25 days on appointment and rises to 30 days after 10 years of service, calculated on a pro-rata basis.
  • You will also receive 9 days of bank, public and privilege holidays.
  • There is access to a paid Level 2 apprenticeship in customer service.
  • Other available benefits include the Civil Service pension scheme, season ticket loans, retail discounts, an Employee Assistance Programme, and a Cycle to Work scheme.
