About the Role

Gympie Regional Council is seeking a practical and versatile team member to support the construction, upkeep, and presentation of its open space assets. This position sits within a multi-skilled crew and involves a mix of mowing maintenance, plant operation, and truck driving, all delivered in line with Council policies, procedures, and quality expectations.

The work is broad and varied, with tasks across parks, reserves, sporting facilities, urban streetscapes, beaches, foreshores, and cemeteries. You may also be asked to assist other open space teams when operational priorities change, giving you exposure to a wide range of environments and projects.

Location and Region

This opportunity is based in Gympie, Queensland, within a fast-growing region that stretches from rural valleys through to the Cooloola Coast. The area borders Noosa, Fraser Coast, North and South Burnett, and Somerset, and offers a blend of country lifestyle, local history, community events, and access to natural attractions, beaches, and nearby major centres.

Remuneration

The salary starts at $74,376 per year, with superannuation of up to 15% on top.

Key Duties

  • Carry out mowing, slashing, brush cutting, weed spraying, pest control, playground upkeep, tree pruning, greenkeeping, and planting.
  • Operate and look after mowers, wood chippers, and related plant and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform tree pruning, use a wood chipper, and complete tree planting tasks.
  • Work in a safe, competent, efficient, and timely manner while following Council safety procedures.
  • Maintain work quality that supports the community’s expectations for Council’s open space services.
  • Help guide and train casual staff and new team members when required.
  • Look for improvements in day-to-day work practices in support of continuous improvement.

Skills and Experience Needed

  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and on your own.
  • Experience operating plant and equipment used in parks and garden maintenance.
  • Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
  • Comfort working in cemetery operations.
  • Current Queensland C class driver’s licence that remains valid.
  • Construction Industry White Card or Blue Card.
  • Ability to work to Council standards for safety, quality, and service delivery.
