Role purpose

The position involves operating all associated equipment during assigned shifts and maintaining constant readiness for emergency deployment. Officers receive intensive training to develop strong knowledge of crash-fire-rescue procedures, rescue systems, and the equipment fitted on firefighting vehicles, so they can apply the correct methods during urgent situations.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out regular checks, cleaning, and upkeep of the CFT vehicle, onboard systems, and communication tools.
  • Detect faults or breakdowns and ensure they are resolved quickly so the vehicle remains fully ready for use.
  • Fill in and submit the vehicle inspection checklist at the beginning of every shift.
  • Escalate any serious mechanical or equipment issues to the shift supervisor without delay.
  • Keep the crew attentive, disciplined, and prepared for immediate deployment throughout the shift.
  • Run training and familiarisation sessions on airfield layout, CFT operations, and equipment usage.
  • Support ongoing practice and development activities to preserve operational skill levels.
  • Respond promptly to all emergency and fire calls in line with procedures and supervisor directions.
  • Assess the incident on arrival and help carry out the required control, rescue, and mitigation measures.
  • Take charge of the crew during emergencies and ensure firefighting and rescue actions are executed correctly.
  • Coordinate with the supervising officer and adjust tactics based on the evolving situation.
  • Drive and operate the Crash Fire Tender safely and effectively in all conditions.
  • Demonstrate strong command over vehicle systems such as pumps, monitors, and other specialised firefighting functions.
