About the Maryland Insurance Administration
The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an autonomous state agency tasked with overseeing Maryland's $49 billion insurance sector. Its mission involves regulating insurance entities, ensuring compliance with state laws, and protecting consumers. The MIA accomplishes this through licensing insurers and producers, conducting financial solvent examinations, reviewing rates and contracts, investigating consumer fraud and complaints, overseeing market conduct, and providing consumer education and outreach.
Role Overview
The Office Secretary III role is situated within the Life and Health Division's Complaint Unit. This position demands providing clerical and secretarial assistance to management and investigative staff. Core responsibilities involve data entry and management in electronic tracking systems, drafting correspondence and official documents such as Orders and Hearings, handling phone calls, preparing monthly reports, updating procedural documentation for support teams, and managing various office tasks including mail coordination, photocopying, scanning, and faxing.
Work Arrangement
The role offers a hybrid work setup with duties split between the Baltimore City office and teleworking arrangements. Flexibility to be present in the office on any weekday is required.
Qualifications
- Completion of high school or equivalent certification is mandatory.
- A minimum of three years engaged in secretarial or clerical work involving typing is required.
- Alternate qualifications include experience substitution on a year-for-year basis for education, college credits in secretarial science or office technology substituting for experience, and military administrative experience translations.
Preferred Skills
- Proven ability to draft formal correspondence.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Typing speed of at least 40 words per minute may be required.
