Role overview

The Office Housekeeper is tasked with keeping the workplace clean, sanitary, and welcoming for employees and visitors. This position helps maintain a safe and comfortable office environment through consistent cleaning and upkeep.

Key duties

  • Carry out regular cleaning work such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and disinfecting surfaces like desks, tables, chairs, and countertops so work areas remain tidy and free of debris.
  • Gather waste and recyclables and place them in the proper bins, while keeping disposal areas neat and organized.
  • Sanitize restroom areas, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors, and replenish essentials such as toilet paper, hand soap, and paper towels.
  • Keep track of cleaning products and equipment, and promptly inform the supervisor if supplies are running low or equipment needs attention.
  • Adhere to safety procedures at all times and handle cleaning chemicals and tools correctly to reduce the risk of accidents or injuries.
  • Support special cleaning assignments when requested, including deeper cleaning work, arranging storage spaces, or helping prepare for meetings and events.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, coworkers, and other team members to align cleaning schedules, flag maintenance concerns, and support efficient daily operations.
  • Assist Transit Maintenance Technicians in the field by helping keep bus shelters and stops clean, and by carrying out small repair tasks on shelters when required.
  • Perform surface cleaning and maintenance inspections in employee apartments every two weeks.
  • Complete other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in office or commercial cleaning is helpful, though not mandatory.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, supplies, and equipment is expected.
  • Ability to follow directions and complete work with little direct supervision.
  • A strong eye for detail and a consistent focus on maintaining high cleanliness standards.
  • Good time management and the ability to decide which tasks need attention first.
  • Clear communication skills and a constructive, positive attitude.
  • Willingness to work outside standard hours when necessary.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs when needed.
  • Must be able to follow applicable county rules, departmental policies, and safety requirements.
