Job description

About the role

LifeCare is looking for a capable health professional to step into an Occupational Health Technician position in Christchurch. This is a supported but independently run role where you will help deliver first aid training and occupational health screening services across Canterbury and, on some occasions, further afield. Although the base is in Christchurch, most of the work will happen at client locations.

This part-time role is guaranteed at 64 hours per fortnight, with extra hours sometimes available. It is a good opportunity for someone starting out in occupational health or wanting to build on existing experience. Paid training is provided, so prior occupational health experience is not essential.

Applicants need a health-related tertiary qualification, such as Health Science, Paramedicine, Sports Science, or another health or sport and exercise-related degree. New graduates are welcome. Nurses may apply, but the role is not paid at the same level as nursing positions; candidates are asked to call or email for details before submitting an application.

Key responsibilities

  • Run first aid training sessions for groups
  • Carry out occupational health screening, including pre-employment checks, annual assessments, and drug and alcohol testing
  • Follow both internal procedures and outside compliance requirements
  • Enter data accurately and confidently using technology
  • Travel to client worksites throughout the region, and occasionally beyond, including some overnight stays

Candidate profile

  • Must already have the legal right to work in New Zealand; sponsorship is not available
  • Need a current New Zealand driver licence
  • Should hold a tertiary qualification in a health, sport, or exercise-related field
  • Passion for helping people and promoting preventative health is important
  • Must be able to present health information in an engaging, interactive way
  • Needs to work efficiently, manage pace, and stay on schedule
  • Strong comfort with technology is essential
  • Must be open to early starts, late finishes, occasional overnight travel, and the odd Saturday shift

Benefits

  • Rewarding work with a strong sense of purpose
  • Overtime paid at time and a half after 80 hours worked in a fortnight
  • Employee Assistance Program, staff discounts, and an annual wellness benefit
  • Company vehicle provided for both work travel and commuting
  • Mobile phone plus laptop or tablet supplied
  • Positive, energetic, and supportive team culture with a focus on growth and development
