Nutrients Advisor

We are seeking an Advisor to join our national Nutrients and Nature Recovery team, focusing on tackling the pressing issue of nutrient pollution within water environments. This role offers a meaningful chance to contribute to creating a balanced, sustainable nutrient system that values nutrients appropriately to enhance environmental quality while supporting sustainable development.

Responsibilities

• Lead engagement efforts with Area Integrated Environment Planning Specialists to support the implementation of Diffuse Water Pollution Plan actions.
• Coordinate activities, promote knowledge sharing, and facilitate continuous evolution of plans to effectively address emerging nutrient pollution challenges.
• Deliver a nutrients engagement framework to strengthen collaboration among internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage contracts and projects that introduce innovative nutrient management solutions.
• Track progress and report on programme activities and outcomes.
• Facilitate a national community of practice to ensure coordinated execution of Diffuse Water Pollution Plan actions and embed these in organisational workflows.

Team Environment

You will be part of a small, friendly, and geographically dispersed team within Team Water under the Environment and Business directorate. The team provides strategic nutrient leadership, manages diffuse water pollution plans, and develops growth policies like nutrient neutrality. The team values a supportive, inclusive culture and meets quarterly in person.

Candidate Profile

• Possess foundational knowledge of various sectors related to nutrient management.
• Show proficient communication skills targeting diverse audiences.
• Bring experience working collaboratively across multiple teams and sharing technical knowledge.
• Have experience in project and programme management.
• Be familiar with contract management and procurement procedures.
• Approach complex situations pragmatically to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Demonstrate ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and encourage consideration of diversity issues.

Work Location

Although this is a national role with flexible work location options, you will be based at an Environment Agency office.

Additional Information

Applications will be assessed blind based on competency questions using the STAR method. Interviews are typically conducted approximately three weeks after the closing date. Candidates may consent to being placed on a reserve list for up to six months for other suitable roles. In case of high application volume, an initial sift based on a key competence may occur.
