About the Role
Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu invites nominations for a Ngāi Tahu representative to serve on the Ōkeina/Okains Bay Reserve Management Committee. This role involves contributing a Ngāi Tahu viewpoint to the Committee’s activities, ensuring that tribal values, priorities, and interests are genuinely reflected in their work. As a representative, you will maintain strong liaison with Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu, providing updates on significant tribal matters and representing tribal perspectives on issues the Committee considers.
Committee Purpose
- Collaborate to co-manage the Ōkeina/Okains Bay Reserve site.
- Directly influence reserve maintenance planning and development.
Skills and Experience
The reserve is managed as a recreation reserve, complying with the Reserves Act 1977, the Deed of Settlement, and the agreements with both the Council and Te Rūnanga. Applicants are expected to have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Familiarity with the Deed of Settlement, the Reserves Act, and other relevant legislation.
- Experience co-managing land consistent with the Management Plan while recognizing Te Rūnanga’s ownership.
- Ensuring Ngāi Tahu values are integrated into decision-making under delegated authority.
- Supporting updates to the Management Plan to better express mana whenua values.
Meetings
Committee meetings (hui) will be conducted regularly, with no more than three months between gatherings.
