Role Overview
The Network Operations Technician will play a key role in managing the expanding Starlink Network serving millions worldwide and the world's largest SuperCompute Datacenter Networks. Responsibilities include real-time monitoring and resolution of network events and anomalies to avoid significant service interruptions. The technician will coordinate incident responses, collaborating with engineers across fields and external partners to diagnose root causes and implement long-term solutions. They will manage network maintenance and changes aimed at enhancing service reliability with minimal downtime. Embedded within the Network Operations Center (NOC), they will partner with operations engineering to optimize operational processes and capabilities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Identify and assess anomalies across satellites, ground stations, terrestrial network interconnections, co-location sites, and internet points of presence.
- Coordinate and oversee routine and emergency maintenance activities conducted by SpaceX and its contractors.
- React quickly to major network incidents and disruptions.
- Lead investigation and resolution of typical network problems.
- Deliver advanced troubleshooting and resolution for complex residential and enterprise issues in collaboration with internal teams.
- Measure and enhance network uptime and performance continually.
- Adhere to and improve operational procedures for managing the Starlink Network.
Basic Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of one year experience in troubleshooting and managing computer systems in network, IT, or security environments such as NOC, SOC, or Data Center Operations.
Preferred Expertise and Skills
- Capability to undertake initiatives requiring self-driven learning and project ownership.
- Adaptability to dynamic, fast-evolving operational environments.
- Experience in critical operational roles with strong emphasis on accuracy and communication.
- Professional certifications like Network+, Security+, CCNA, or JNCIA are advantageous.
- Proficiency in network troubleshooting with packet analysis and device telemetry interpretation.
- Understanding of modern networking including connectivity (MAC, WiFi, WDM, IPv4, IPv6), switching (STP, VLANs, VXLANs, QinQ), routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, RDMA), network services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, NAT), and network security measures (MACsec, ACLs, Anti-DDoS).
- Familiarity with consumer network devices (IoT, home security, smart devices).
- Experience in customer-facing roles, preferably in support environments.
- Skill in debugging complex systems with data analytics.
- Basic programming knowledge in Python, SQL, Bash, or similar languages.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or STEM fields.
Additional Conditions
- Availability is required for daytime shift rotations and weekend work as necessary.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range is between $44,000 and $88,000 USD, dependent on factors including location, relevant skills, education, and experience.
