Overview
This part-time role, reporting to the PK-12 Education Coordinator, offers an entry-level opportunity in museum education focused on formal and informal learning. The position requires participation in a structured training program.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Education Team to deliver and enhance educational programming, public events, and museum floor operations.
- Engage diverse audiences including students from Pre-K to post-secondary, interns, English language learners, exceptional learners, adults, seniors, homeschool families, general visitors, and teachers with high energy and positive group management skills.
- Facilitate inquiry-driven, standards-aligned field experiences utilizing collections and regional history, with subject expertise in Ohio social studies topics such as economics, government, geography, and history, plus financial literacy, language arts, social-emotional learning, and elements of technology, math, and science.
- Lead respectful discussions on social justice, race, equity, and inclusion issues.
- Teach in various settings including whole group, small group, and one-on-one formats at the museum and outreach locations like schools, libraries, senior and community centers; mileage and travel time for outreach are reimbursed.
- Conduct tours and provide interactive gallery experiences for multi-generational visitors.
- Prepare for and attend scheduled programs, presentations, and shifts punctually and fully trained.
- Apply academic research and source citation skills in teaching social studies methods.
- Manage program materials, technology setup, space arrangement, and post-program cleanup duties.
- Contribute collaboratively to developing, piloting, promoting, executing, and evaluating a variety of school programs, professional development sessions, tours, special events, and competitions like Ohio History Day.
- Support special events at Cleveland History Center and other WRHS sites as needed, including required participation in key signature events.
- Maintain professional appearance, authentic and engaging program delivery, and ensure clean, safe work and exhibition areas.
- Coordinate with security and front-line staff to uphold safety and security protocols, following all emergency procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Experience working with children and youth in structured settings is mandatory.
- A passion for teaching and engaging learners of all ages.
- Comfortable with public speaking.

- Strong skills in time management and organization.
- Able to work independently as well as cooperate within a team across museum departments.
- Demonstrates tact, enthusiasm, professional demeanor, and appearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Middle Childhood Education, Secondary Social Studies Education, Public History, History, Art History, Sociology, Humanities, or a related field.
- Relevant professional experience may be accepted as equivalent to degree requirements.
- Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED training is advantageous.
