Role Overview
As a Mortgage Loan Originator, you will help individuals and businesses navigate major financing decisions, from first-home purchases to expansion plans. The role focuses on building trusted relationships, guiding applicants through the mortgage journey, and supporting timely loan closings while delivering strong customer service and living the bank’s values.
Key Responsibilities
- Build a pipeline of mortgage business by creating and maintaining referral relationships.
- Originate conventional, FHA, VA, RD, and THDA residential loans in line with secondary market requirements.
- Work toward assigned production goals and contribute to volume targets.
- Develop and expand business with new prospects.
- Meet with loan applicants, gather complete application details, and request all documents needed for processing.
- Track each loan through the process to support efficient and timely closings.
- Use sales and service techniques to maintain existing customer relationships and create new ones, including follow-up activity.
- Network with realtors, builders, attorneys, and CPAs to strengthen referral sources.
- Continue building professional knowledge through workshops, publications, professional networks, and industry associations.
- Follow all applicable federal banking rules, consumer protection requirements, and BSA/AML obligations.
- Attend training sessions when requested.
- Take part in community activities as needed.
- Handle additional duties assigned by management.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least 3 years of experience in residential mortgage origination.
- Ability to develop business in target market areas.
- Strong knowledge of mortgage lending guidelines, laws, and regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard business software.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, networking, and communication abilities.
- Capability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
