Job description

Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated and capable MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning) Officer to support the Save the Children–Balaka District Council Project. The role will help strengthen project tracking, learning, and decision-making through reliable evidence and data.

The position is based at the Balaka District Education Office and works closely with the programme team to support strong delivery and continuous improvement of project results.

The successful candidate will contribute to monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning processes so that project performance is measured accurately and used to improve implementation.

Reporting line: Programme Coordinator.

Monitoring

  • Follow project activities and outputs against planned work schedules.
  • Create and roll out indicators, tools, and systems that capture progress.
  • Make sure data is collected on time and is accurate and dependable.

Evaluation

  • Review progress against project objectives and intended outcomes.
  • Carry out baseline, midline, and endline assessments.
  • Assess the project’s effectiveness and overall impact.

Accountability

  • Support openness and accountability to beneficiaries and stakeholders.
  • Set up and manage feedback and complaint-handling systems.
  • Ensure community feedback is gathered, reviewed, and responded to.

Learning

  • Examine project data and capture key lessons learned.
  • Disseminate findings to encourage ongoing improvement.
  • Promote evidence-based choices and adaptive programming.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Protect data quality, confidentiality, and proper storage practices.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, and analytical briefs.
  • Support reporting needs for donors and management.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Statistics, Development Studies, Economics, or another relevant discipline.
  • Minimum four years of experience in a similar MEAL position.
  • Solid background in monitoring and evaluation systems and frameworks.
  • Strong ability to analyse and interpret data.
  • Good reporting and communication skills.
  • Experience using digital data management tools.
  • High level of accuracy, detail orientation, and compliance.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
