About Us

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking someone to help deliver a reliable cleaning service across its building cleaning client sites. The council’s way of working is built around being ambitious, open, collaborative, and proud of the communities it serves.

Role Overview

This is a mobile cleaning position based in Barry, Wales, with transport supplied to reach different sites. The role is paid at Grade 1, SP3, with a pro-rata annual salary of £25,949, which works out at £13.45 per hour.

The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday, for 12.5 hours each week across 52 weeks. Working hours are from 6:00 am to 8:30 am.

What You Will Do

  • Support the delivery of an effective cleaning service for building cleaning clients.
  • Step in for other cleaners when they are away due to holiday, sickness, staff shortages, or other absences.
  • Help the chargehand or site supervisor with training cleaning staff from time to time.
  • Carry out a wide range of cleaning duties, including carpet cleaning, steam cleaning, builders’ cleans, recess cleaning, and other tasks not always covered by the standard site specification.

What We’re Looking For

Applicants should have experience in the cleaning sector, or in a related cleaning environment. You should understand the range of tasks needed to maintain an efficient premises cleaning service and be able to communicate well with members of the public and client officers.

The job requires someone who can manage manual and active labour, work independently, and stay positive, flexible, and responsive when priorities change. Irregular working hours may also be required.

A full UK driving licence is essential, as the role involves travelling between locations across the Vale as needed.
